Star of the Week
Each week the Committee selects a person/s who has demonstrated the spirit of Little Athletics, either through outstanding results, sportmanship, effort, involvement or any of the other values athletics aims to foster.
If you see an act that you think should be mentioned, please email the webmaster so it can be included here.
Sunday 17 January 2010
Rebecca Mathers
Rebecca showed compassion and caring when another athlete in an U7 event was visibly upset by throwing a foul. Her kind words and actions were a great comfort to the other athlete.
Jason Groombridge
Thanks to Jason donating his time and materials on Sunday, our High Jump trailer is fit again and can safely tow the high jump mats out to the site.
Saturday 9 January 2010
Jesse Usoalii
Congratulations to Jesse for breaking the U14 boys 100m, sprinting home in 12.3 seconds shaving 0.2s off the previous record. Well done, Jesse.
Friday 11 December 2009
Andrew Quin
A hiccup in the U10 boys hurdles meant that these boys had to run their event twice. In the second (official) race, Andrew clipped a hurdle and stumbled, cleared the next one, then clipped the next and fell over. He got up, however, and completed the event, with a smile on his face. Well done, Andrew, for showing a great Little Athletics attitude in overcoming misfortune.
Friday 13 November 2009
Kira-Lee de Wit
Another athlete who is not content to break just one record. After breaking the Under 14 girls record for the 70m last week, Kira-Lee matched her efforts this week, claiming the 100m sprint as well. Congratulations, Kira-Lee.
Brett Johnstone
Brett is actually a Hobart Districts parent, but he and is daughter Elizabeth (U10 girls) have almost been a permanent fixture at our meets this season. Brett has jumped in at every opportunity to help at sites, officiating, helping to set up and pack up. Thanks, Brett - it's parents like you who keep Little Athletics running.
Saturday 7 November 2009
Ryan Gale
Ryan has continued his record-breaking form from last season, breaking the Under 7 boys 200m record by 0.7 of a second. This record has been held since the 83/84 season.....until Saturday. Ryan also equalled the record for the 70m on the same day. Congratulations, Ryan.
Friday 30th October and Saturday 31 October 2009
We have two 'stars' this week:
Tim Woodham
Tim is the father of Mahalia in the U12 girls - without Tim's trailer and time this week, we would not have had any way of getting the high jump mats to the Domain. If your child was involved in a high jump event on Friday night or Saturday, Tim is the man to thank.
All children in the U12-U15 1500m Walk
Due to a techinical difficulty, these children race-walked a whole extra lap! Congratulations to all competitors for finishing that long event without complaint.
